Why Choose African Impact in Zambia

While incredible development has occurred in Zambia throughout the past decades, much work remains to be done. Zambia is currently one of the world’s poorest countries, with over 60% of its population living in poverty. The large majority of Zambia’s population are young people, which is rapidly doubling every 25 years. This fast population growth puts additional strain on the availability of employment opportunities, health care, and social services, making it difficult for many citizens to escape an intense cycle of poverty.

Working closely with African Impact and the African Impact Foundation, our volunteer projects in Zambia focus on empowering, educating, and enriching Zambian citizens. As a volunteer working in Zambia, your efforts will be integral to uplifting locals in sustainable and measurable ways.

The staff and the fellow volunteers were amazing - so much fun and the girl impact program is excellent— so important for the local community. The support they give and the consistent positive and essential information they teach is fantastic. The local staff have created several really pertinent and useful programs for the community. It was an honour to be a part of the African Impact.

Did the teaching project in Zambia and from day one I felt that I had an immediate impact. It was amazing how driven and open the kids were. Even though I am fairly young (17), I felt as if I was able to find my role and actually lead classes. The people at the hostel and the managers were awesome to work with and made sure everything was safe and easy. I would certainly do this again if I had the chance.

Amazing staff all positive informative and caring. Project was making do a lot of the time but still effective, fun and safe. Great activities both fun and cultural. Overall was an amazing experience and will be imploring friends to do the same.

I came to African Impact for 10 days and I have loved everything about my experience. Staff are so unbelievably friendly, always greeted with a smile and a laugh. I loved being out on project and interacting with the community, I feel I really got out of my trip what I wanted and am so grateful to have been able to experience this. There were lots of opportunities to engage with local culture and the weekend activities such as the trip to Chobe National Park have created memories I will never forget. I highly recommend anyone who craves adventure while being able to give back to consider African impact!

IS ZAMBIA A SAFE PLACE TO VOLUNTEER

Zambia is generally considered a safe destination for volunteers, though like any country, it has its own set of considerations. Here’s a balanced overview:

Political stability: Zambia is known for its political stability compared to many African nations

Crime: Petty theft can occur, especially in urban areas. Exercise caution with personal belongings.

Rural areas: Often safer, but may have limited infrastructure and medical facilities.

Wildlife areas: Take necessary precautions when working near wildlife.

Health concerns: Be aware of potential health risks like malaria and get appropriate vaccinations.

Road safety: Road conditions can be poor, and driving standards may differ from what you’re used to.

Cultural sensitivity: Respecting local customs can help avoid misunderstandings.

Natural hazards: Be aware of potential risks like flooding during rainy seasons.

Common sense: Use the same precautions you would in any unfamiliar place.

The majority of volunteers in Zambia have safe and rewarding experiences. The key is to be well-prepared, vigilant, and follow safety guidelines provided by our African Impact team.
