MEET OUR TEAM

Name has led African Impact since 2015, bringing 18 years of experience is sustainable development and community partnerships. She grew up in rural Kenya and completed her Master’s in International Development in Oxford.

One of the greatest perks of my role is the opportunity to travel — immersing myself in new places and cultures, and bringing that global perspective back to my work.

Amy Atkinson is the Direct Group Sales and Operations Manager at African Impact, where she leads strategic partnerships and group travel experiences with a focus on purpose-driven impact. With over two decades of experience in sales, operations, and client relations, she specialises in creating meaningful, seamless journeys for schools and organisations. Passionate about nature, travel, and personal growth, Amy is dedicated to designing experiences that connect people more deeply to themselves and the world around them.

Reuben is the newest member of our Zambian team, starting in February 2025 as Project and Volunteer Coordinator. He oversees all the healthcare projects in Livingstone. He is a qualified nurse by profession who loves to go out on home-based care visits and work in clinics alongside the volunteers. He also runs our Health Club and Eco Club with a big smile on his face, educating and engaging with students.

Reuben was born and raised in Livingstone and, in his free time, enjoys playing basketball as well as watching movies and series.

Benny is African Impact’s longest-serving employee and has been part of the team since 2008. As our Senior Driver and Community Liaison, he is our go-to person for Home-Based Care, where he seems to know everything and everyone. He loves that his role gives him the opportunity to meet so many new people.

Known for his gentle driving and quiet nature, Benny is a pleasure to work with, and getting him to laugh is sure to be a highlight of your day. Outside of work, Benny loves his blue car and enjoys a beer over the weekend.

Justin is our Driver and Community Liaison and has been part of the African Impact team since 2019. He knows the local roads by heart, safely transporting volunteers to and from their project locations each day.

Justin is a member of the Ngoni tribe and is fluent in Nyanja, as well as speaking Tonga, Lozi and English. He lives in Maramba with his wife and three children. His favourite food is nshima with okra, and in his free time he enjoys both playing and watching football. His favourite team is Manchester United.

Barbara is our Volunteer and Project Coordinator in Livingstone, Zambia. Originally from the Copperbelt Province in northern Zambia, she joined African Impact in 2019. She oversees all of our Girl Impact projects and particularly enjoys working alongside the volunteers who support them.

Barbara is driven by a desire to create lasting change in the hearts and lives of people across her country. Her passion for positive impact and her warm, inspiring spirit leave a lasting impression on everyone she meets.

Her favourite quote, and words she lives by, are from African American novelist, playwright and activist James Baldwin: “The place in which I’ll fit will not exist until I make it.”

Mulenga was born in Monze, Zambia, and has spent most of his life in Livingstone. He first joined the Livingstone Community Projects team in June 2022 as Project Manager. After spending some time working with the sales team, he returned in 2025 as our Groups Leader.

Mulenga ensures that every group visiting Livingstone contributes meaningfully towards our project goals, while also making sure each itinerary runs smoothly and delivers the best possible experience. He is rarely seen without a smile and has a natural ability to lift the spirits of everyone around him.

Outside of work, Mulenga enjoys singing in his Sunday church choir and spending quality time with his family.

Phoebe is our community liaison for all the girl impact projects. She started working with us at the end of 2024. She was born in Ndola, is Tumbuka by tribe and lives in Livingstone. Phoebe recently got her diploma in social work and is very passionate about empowering young boys and girls that we are working with. She is also our main teacher in Nyanja lessons for the volunteers and makes sure all them can speak basic Nyanja. In her free time, Phoeby likes to swim, dance and aerobics.

Mutinta was born and raised in Livingstone, Zambia and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Demography. Mutinta started as a volunteer coordinator in 2022 but since March 2024 she is the volunteer manager. She makes sure all the projects are run smoothly and also takes the lead in the teaching program and math club. Mutinta has a passion for tailoring and design and loves making outfits for herself and others. Her friends would describe her as “sociable, stylish and sweet”.

Sander works for African Impact since 2015 after he volunteered in 2014 on the medical project. He is the base manager in Livingstone and he is doing a lot of the work behind the scenes. Back home he was a social worker and he worked in a home for people with a disability. Sander has a passion for healthcare and loves working with the communities here in Livingstone. In his free time, he likes to hang around by the pool, drink some Mosi and watch a lot of movies and series.

Anny is our Base Manager in Jambiani, Zanzibar. Originally from Germany, she has lived on several continents over the past 15 years. Her passion for understanding foreign cultures and languages first motivated her to pursue a career in science and later led her to discover her love for development work. Over the past two years, she has spent most of her time in Zanzibar, first as a volunteer, then as a volunteer coordinator, and now as a base manager. She is dedicated to drawing on her experience in intercultural collaboration and organisation to ensure the Zanzibar projects remain as fulfilling and sustainable as they are for all parties involved.

Ahmada grew up in Stone Town, Zanzibar, where his lifelong connection to the ocean inspired him to pursue a career in marine conservation. He earned a B.Sc. in Aquaculture from Sokoine University of Agriculture before joining African Impact from 2022 to 2023. After completing an M.Sc. in Environmental Studies at the State University of Zanzibar, he returned to the team in April 2026, bringing even greater expertise and experience. Ahmada specializes in dolphin ecology, with a particular focus on bottlenose and Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins. He is passionate about protecting Zanzibar’s marine environment and is dedicated to advancing research and conservation efforts for the dolphin populations of Menai Bay, the waters surrounding his home island.

Amour is born and raised just outside of Stone Town, Zanzibar, where a close connection to the ocean led him to look into ways to aid marine conservation from an early age. After earning a B.Sc. in Marine Sciences from the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam, he joined African Impact in April 2026, bringing fresh knowledge and enthusiasm straight from university. With a background in fishing communities and experience as a data assistant, Amour enjoys combining fieldwork with data to better understand the relationship between marine ecosystems and the people who depend on them. Outside of work, you’ll often find him swimming.

Suzy is originally from Arusha, in mainland Tanzania, and moved to Zanzibar five years ago. Since then, she has been dedicated to education and has spent the past four years working with African Impact in our Teaching Program. She holds a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and also enjoys teaching Swahili. Suzy has a special passion for working with the women in our community. And outside of work, you’ll usually find her with her two dogs, sewing something new, or relaxing with some good music.

Amir is our Teaching and Community Development Coordinator. He is from Jambiani, the community where we live and work in Zanzibar. Amir’s story is one that highlights the success of our teaching project as he was a student in our adult English program over a decade ago. He went on to have a career in professional football and then started working in the development sector as an English teacher and project manager. In February 2024 he joined us now as the leader of our teaching team and has been such an inspiration to our students and volunteers. Amir shines through his thorough work and affectionate zest for learning. He brings lots of energy to every kind of lesson, whether in the classroom or on the sports field.
