Over 8–12 days in Livingstone, IB students can take part in locally guided community development work, cultural exchange and reflection. With your school, we shape the program around its learning goals and a focus such as teaching, gender equality, sports coaching, eco education or eco-bricking. Activities depend on local guidance and what is appropriate for the group.
The experience is designed to support Creativity, Activity and Service, with opportunities to consider all seven CAS learning outcomes. It does not award CAS credit or replace a school’s own planning, evidence and assessment process.
Day One
Transfer to the base, settle in for orientation and a briefing, then share dinner and icebreakers.
Day Two
Begin with introductions and a Nyanja lesson, then take part in eco-bricking.
Day Three
Spend the day participating in a sports program, with a packed lunch.
Day Four
Visit Green Stretch, explore the SDGs in a workshop and join after-school activities.
Day Five
Take a village tour and make time to journal, followed by a child-protection workshop and a second Nyanja lesson.
Day Six
Visit Victoria Falls in the morning, then explore the tourist market and town in the afternoon.
Day Seven
Go on safari in the morning, with the afternoon free to rest and pack.
Day Eight
Join a reflection workshop and receive program certificates in the morning, then depart in the afternoon.
Community development focus areas
Schools can focus on different areas depending on their goals. These are possibilities rather
than a fixed set of activities; we plan the details with local partners and your school.
Depending on school goals and local guidance, groups may support teaching or take part in age-appropriate gender equality activities. The focus is planned with local partners.
Bring together faculty teaching, local expertise, and the questions students encounter on the ground.
Create space for facilitated discussion, academic reflection, and connection back to the cohort’s course of study.
Where the group stays
The group stays together at Victoria Falls Backpackers, with shared rooms for students and separate rooms for accompanying teachers. When multiple groups are booked, Limbo Lodge may be used instead. We confirm the property and room arrangements with your school before travel.
Shared bunk rooms sleep 4–8 people. Bathrooms are shared and have hot showers.
Single rooms are provided for accompanying teachers and adults.
Limbo Lodge is a possible alternative for additional groups. Ask which property and room arrangements are available for your dates.
A practical starting point for a school’s budget and preparation. The precise arrangements for each group are confirmed when planning the trip.
