Our Base
Just minutes from the mighty Victoria Falls, Livingstone is a safe, welcoming town. And with more than twenty years of operational history here, we are proud to be part of the community. We work year-round with local health boards, clinics, and community leaders to ensure our presence provides genuine support where it’s needed most.
As a volunteer, you’ll get folded into that quickly, working alongside the same people day after day. You’ll leave with clinical experience, and with working relationships that go beyond the wards.
You’ll stay at our private, secure volunteer house in a safe Livingstone suburb, close to the clinics, schools, and community projects you’ll be working in. Rooms are shared dorms of 4 to 8 beds, with en-suite or shared bathrooms. If you’d rather have your own space, private room upgrades are available.
The house has a swimming pool, an outdoor bar, a lounge, and gardens to unwind in between projects, along with wifi so you can stay in touch with home.
Meals are included in your placement: three meals a day, prepared on-site by our local team. Expect a mix of Zambian dishes and familiar international options, made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast sets you up before you head out for the day, lunch is timed around your placement hours, and dinner is a chance for the whole house to sit down together.
Let us know about any dietary requirements ahead of your arrival and we’ll accommodate them. On weekends, you’re also free to explore Livingstone’s own cafés and markets, or cook something together with the volunteers you’re living with.
Livingstone is a safe, welcoming town, and volunteers, students, and school groups have been coming here safely for more than two decades. That said, we treat safety as something we actively manage, not something we assume.
Every placement starts with an in-country safety briefing, covering local protocols, emergency procedures, and what to expect day to day, before anyone sets foot in a clinic, classroom, or community project.
The volunteer house itself is private and secure, with a 24/7 guarded gate, lockable safes for valuables, and our own team living on-site throughout your stay. Transport to and from every placement is arranged and supervised by our staff, and a dedicated support team is reachable around the clock for the length of your trip.
