Whether you’re looking for your next adventure after spending the summer in Thailand, or you’ve got a handful of leave left from work that you’re itching to use before the year ends, now is one of the best times to volunteer in Cape Town.

This incredible, remarkable city is a must-visit travel destination that is repeatedly named as one of the best cities in the world. Besides that, it’s one of African Impact’s most popular volunteering destinations, given the combination of extraordinary, sustainable and varied programs we have on offer.

Here’s why you should volunteer in Cape Town before the end of the year:

1. Street sports tournament in the townships communities of Khayelitsha, Langa and Masiphumelele

Every Friday – from October 19th to the final on November 30th – we aim to bring these beautiful games into the hearts of the communities and add a new dimension to structured youth sports. By hosting them on the street, we provide a platform to engage all members of the community, as well as promote cultural diversity and a talent identification opportunity.

We need extra hands to help coach, motivate and even umpire the games happening every week and we can promise (as confirmed by past volunteers) that this is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as a sports volunteer in Cape Town.

If you stick around until December 10th, you’ll also get to join in our beach cricket tournament, taking place on the stunning beaches of Muizenberg.

2. Graduation for our pre-schoolers

Throughout the whole year, our Early Childhood Development team – together with the invaluable assistance of international volunteers and local teachers – play a huge role in the development of over 60 children in the township of Khayelitsha. As the second largest township in South Africa, this support ensures the children are able to further their education and be able to access school the following year.

During the last few months of the year, we need all hands on deck to assist the children at this challenging time of the year; helping them gain the necessary knowledge to graduate and move to ‘big’ school.

But, all of the hard work everyone puts in during the year – and especially during these final last months – gets rewarded by witnessing the children graduate, move on to school and participate in very emotional graduation ceremonies! It’s a truly amazing time of the year and a memory you will always cherish!

3. Cape Town at its best

We admit, Cape Town is pretty stunning all-year round, but October brings a change in weather. You guessed it, summer is coming. And what better way to enjoy this city than by living in our volunteer house, located only 2 minutes away from the beach? Take it from us, there’s no better way to finish your volunteer duties for the day than being able to take a short stroll to the beach and witness the sunset with a cold beverage in your hand.

Our volunteer accommodation has moved to the surfer’s town of Muizenberg – a perfect spot to spend the rest of your year!

If the beach and the ocean isn’t enough, this time of the year brings outdoor markets. With that, world-renowned food and wine. And why stop there; Cape Town wines are iconic, as is wine tasting. Sipping on a chilled Sauvignon Blanc while marveling at the stunning mountains is right at the top of our list for a good weekend.

If you are a music lover, famous Kirstenbosch concerts – featuring the best of South African and international music – start operating again and the same happens with the open-air cinemas.

Whatever it is you are looking to do, it is certainly better to do it in summer!

Bonus Track: If this wasn’t enough, we’re offering a HUGE 250 GBP/USD discount off your volunteer placement in Cape Town if you arrive before the end of 2018. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and come join us in Cape Town for a once in a lifetime experience (well, until we see you again the next year).
