Gender Equality Volunteer Programs in Africa

Contribute to the empowerment of girls during a gender equality volunteer project in Africa. You’ll join us in Livingstone, Zambia, and become part of an inspiring program that provides girls and women with useful tools to reduce the prevailing gender gap. This is done through a multifaceted approach that focuses on education, safety, self-confidence, and income generation. As a gender equality volunteer, you’ll help develop and run workshops in the local community, and you’ll use your skills and knowledge to mentor girls in different areas. This female empowerment volunteer project is a rewarding way to play part in an ongoing equal opportunities initiative.

Impact: Gender Equality

More information about our Gender Equality Project in Africa

The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued.” – Michelle Obama

Our gender equality projects strive to empower and inspire women and girls across Africa, providing them with a sense of self-worth and pride. The best way we achieve this is through the power of education.

Educating women will, ultimately, allow them to live more informed and safer lives. For example, in Sub-Saharan Africa, 1 in 31 mothers will die during childbirth. In developed regions, it’s only 1 in 4,300. These numbers reflect and demonstrate the difference between the levels of education available to them. Increased education efforts discourage early pregnancy and decrease the risks associated with it. With education, the scale of these issues will significantly decrease.

The effects of primary and secondary education for women and girls

It is evident just how important education is for women. Women who are able to access a quality education are more likely to be presented with choice, opportunity, and prosperity.

As a volunteer, you will join our girl empowerment project in Zambia and contribute to our Girl Impact initiative. This initiative was set up to support and educate young girls to help them make better-informed decisions as they move towards womanhood, provide educational workshops, and encourage income-generating activities. By volunteering at this project, you will educate and inspire the women and girls we work with across Africa, teaching them the importance of:

  • Safety and prevention of violence – allowing girls and women to live safely and free from violence.
  • Avoiding early pregnancy – an education will help towards reducing the levels of early pregnancy.
  • Making a living – giving girls and women the opportunity to find a job and re-invest this into their family and community.
  • Self-confidence – empowering women and girls to be aspirational and achieve their goals and ambitions.

Most importantly, volunteers help these girls and women find their own voice, uplifting them, and empowering them to make more informed choices. By supporting our initiative, you make a significant difference in the lives of young girls and women across Africa, helping them realise their potential and inspiring them to achieve their dreams.

Volunteer Reviews of our Gender Equality Volunteer Project
“I have had the best month volunteering for African Impact on the Girl Impact project. The highlight has to be all the people I have met, people on projects, and the other volunteers. going into the schools and communities to talk about loads of interesting topics from HIV/AIDs to self-confidence means you learn a lot about Zambian culture and really get to know the pupils. I feel that the Girl Impact project is very important and is also so much fun, I had the best time at the women’s group as the ladies were so interesting and just hilarious. The projects generally are so organised, with clear timetables and transport so you don’t have to worry about anything. The house is so much fun and it is so easy to make friends with everyone so life when you’re not on project, is still exciting. Overall, I am so glad that I have volunteered here and would recommend it to anyone!”
