The African Impact team in Zambia is hiring! We are looking for a proactive, team player and passionate Volunteer Manager for our team in Livingstone, Zambia. This role is deeply embedded in the community and offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself into Zambian life whilst leading and supporting volunteers who come to work on the project. You will be responsible for the day-to-day coordinating of volunteers, ensuring they have an unforgettable experience whilst staying safe, healthy and entertained both on project and at our volunteer house.

Overall responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating the volunteers and projects in Livingstone. You will live in the staff house and be responsible in making sure our international volunteers are comfortable in their accommodations and enjoying their volunteer experience. You will need to balance your time between managing relationships, planning activities, actively seeking new partnerships to expand the programme, encouraging and supporting volunteers and staff members and reviewing the projects and proposing changes based on feedback.

Detailed responsibilities:

Experience Management:

  1. Organize pre-arrival documents for all new volunteers and interns
  2. Organising weekly schedule for all volunteers and staff members
  3. Lead and coach the coordinators to deliver the volunteer experience and to run some community project.
  4. Ensure activities provide unique and immersive experiences.
  5. Make the decisions on how to implement improvements based on volunteer feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  6. Be actively involved in social activities with volunteer, always maintaining a professional relationship & creating a positive volunteer atmosphere- present, enthusiastic & engaged
  7. Encourage and guide volunteers to be the best they can be.
  8. Effectively communicate goals and reasoning behind cultural guidelines to volunteers.
  9. Ensuring volunteers know when/where/what they are doing and adhere to schedule- project goals, punctuality.


Project Coordination:

  1. Oversee coordinators who run all the projects.
  2. Prepare volunteers for project.
  3. Ensure the quality of teaching and lesson preparation is always consistent & maintains a high standard.
  4. Oversee and guide the Volunteer Coordinators.
  5. Working to actively create a positive team environment.
  6. Constant communication to the Base Managers about any issues or project challenges.
  7. Work alongside the Base manager to maintain strong partner relationships for long term sustainable projects.
  8. Clearly demonstrate adherence to the Code of Conduct, Standard Operating Procedures and Experience documents on how to support the Volunteer Experience.


Enterprise Management:

  1. Advise the Base Manager on any budget requirements according to the arrival schedule and necessary expenditure.
  2. Maintain any company assets to a good quality.
  3. Provide reports and imagery to the office to support the growth in numbers of volunteers.
  4. Oversee any expenditure you are responsible for ensuring good records are maintained.
  5. Identify areas for growth and improvement discussing these with your Base manager.
  6. Contribute to the running of social media pages.
  7. Collating weekly, monthly and quarterly medical project stats



Community Engagement:

  1. Maintain relationships with community partners, including head teachers, head sisters, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.
  2. Maintain positive relationships with local staff, students, teachers & community members.
  3. Support and guide all local members of staff to reach their goals and potential.
  4. Develop an understanding of the culture within the local community.
  5. Spend time in the community building relationships and assist volunteers transitioning into life in Livingstone.
  6. Be a champion of our cultural guidelines to upkeep African Impact’s reputation with the community.
  7. Respond quickly and directly to community needs- implement projects to support their requirements.


Skills & Experience:

  1. Undergraduate degree (ideally in management related field but not mandatory)
  2. Able to move full-time to Zambia for minimum of two years
  3. Able to start from the 1st November
  4. Manual driving license
  5. Previous teaching/TEFL experience highly desirable
  6. Have volunteered abroad (within Africa preferred)
  7. A team player who’s interested in people, coaching, and supporting volunteers
  8. Self-motivated, flexible, independent, adaptable
  9. Love of socialising with different types of people and mixed ages
  10. A positive attitude and the ability to think on your feet



  1. Full-time accommodation and meals are provided at the volunteer house
  2. One return flight will be reimbursed
  3. Stipend: dependent on experience
