Volunteer Teaching in Zanzibar

Newsletters » May/June 2008 » Volunteer Teaching in Zanzibar

The infamous spice island of Zanzibar is nestled in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania. We will be ready to welcome our first volunteers to Zanzibar at the start of June 2008. Please email kylie@africanencounter.org for more information!

Zanzibar Teaching and Community Project Zanzibar Island is part of a beautiful tropical archipelago of islands and its capital, Zanzibar Town (known to many merely as Stone Town), is a fascinating place, with an intriguing blend of Indian, Arab, and African influences. Our project base is on the east coast of the island in a long village set on a pristine stretch of coastline, where you will be tempted to spend your days relaxing under the palm trees sipping coconut juice. In these spectacular surroundings we invite you to join our work in various teaching, community and environmental programmes. On weekends you will have time to explore this breathtaking archipelago further.

Your involvement as a Volunteer in the Pre-School, Primary and Secondary School Projects:

  • Assistant teaching in the local pre-schools, primary school and secondary schools
  • Teaching English to teachers and scholars at the various schools
  • Teaching Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) at the primary and secondary schools
  • Teaching computer skills at the local secondary schools
  • Sports development and coaching
  • School and community facilities re-building work
  • Immersing yourself in the local Kiswahili culture
  • Teaching local young adults at
