Volunteer in Mozambique Newsletters » March/April 2007 » Mozambique Relief Work, Community and Soccer Development This month, we focus on our Mozambique volunteer project following the recent floods in Mozambique. PROJECT NAME: Mozambique Relief Work, Community and Soccer Development COUNTRY: Mozambique LOCATION: The Village of Vilanculos, a short boat ride from the World Heritage Site Bazaruto Archipelago in the Indian Ocean Contact one of our placement coordinators for more information. About the Mozambique Volunteer Project We sent through a group of volunteers to assist with the aid and relief work in Mozambique's coastal village of Vilanculos in the first week of March 2007. Cyclone Favio caused havoc in late February when it hit the coastal area in and around Vilanculos where our community and soccer development project is based. We contacted all of our current volunteers on our Zimbabwe and Zambia projects and put forward the option to join us on a subsidised relief expedition which went ahead and was a very special experience for all of them. Some volunteer feedback from the relief expedition: "My first day, going to give out food with the World Food Program will go down as my best memory in Africa". Anne Peacop (UK, from the Livingstone programme in Zambia and Antelope Park) "The whole trip was a wonderful experience, and i felt a lot of good came out of it". Mary Jane Calvert (UK, from the Antelope Park programme) "I spent 2 days sailing around the islands off the coast of Mozambique to hand out food to stranded people it is something that I will never forget". Ben Deary, relief expedition support and one of our Antelope Park project managers.  The project has since gone from strength to strength as our ties in the local commnity are strengthened and our volunteers are able to be even more effective. Here is some feedback from one of our most recent volunteers in Mozambique: “Thank you ever so, ever so much for giving me such an AMAZING and INSPIRING experience in Mozambique!  I've learnt so much about the country and its way of life, especially through meeting and working directly with the local people through the projects.  I definitely won't forget it, and I will definitely return to Africa one day and explore more... I wish you loads of luck with the project, there is so much scope.
