This month, we focus on our Mozambique volunteer project following the recent floods in Mozambique.

PROJECT NAME: Mozambique Relief Work, Community and Soccer Development
COUNTRY: Mozambique

Contact one of our placement coordinators for more information.

About the Mozambique Volunteer Project

This programme involves various aspects of community development work and soccer coaching projects in and around the coastal town of Vilanculos. March-July of 2007 will see our programme with an intensified focus on Cyclone Favio relief work and helping to rebuild the devastated local community.

Recent trip: Volunteer in Mozambique

We sent through a group of volunteers to assist with the aid and volunteer in Mozambique's coastal village of Vilanculos in the first week of March 2007. Cyclone Favio caused havoc in late February when it hit the coastal area in and around Vilanculos where our community and soccer development project is based. We contacted all of our current volunteers on our Zimbabwe and Zambia projects and put forward the option to join us on a subsidised relief expedition.

When the group returned to Zimbabwe on the 15 March they all shared an overwhelming sense of having had a very unique and moving experience. Whilst their trip was trying at times, e.g. not all the usual day-to-day supplies being available in Vilanculos, etc, I feel that they were very humbled by their time on the relief trip and that they came away feeling that they had made a significant difference.

We will still be involved in relief work over the next few months as it will take a lot of time and effort before the surrounding area is restored to some semblance of normality. Please note that any volunteers who are able to join us before the end of May 2007 will be welcomed at a subsidised fee. The price has been set at GBP850 or US$1600 per person for one month on the programme until the end of May. Flights from Johannesburg direct to Vilanculos are functioning normally so there is easy access to Vilanculos and our project managers will meet you on arrival.
