Focus on Uganda – Be there in May 2006!! Our next pet
project is our Uganda community development initiative...
We are planning a group expedition
to Uganda towards the end of May this year when we are going
to work with the SoftPower Community development programmes for
one month. The focus of the expedition is involvement in teaching
and community development programmes.
This jungled land is home to some of Africa’s warmest people,
and boasts a rare population of Mountain Gorillas. Uganda is attempting
to stem the tide of previously deteriorated education facilities
- President Museveni has made it possible for all primary children
to receive free education, but still there is much to do. Your base
is at Bujagali Falls, at the source of the River Nile.
Your involvement as a volunteer:
- Assisting with building and refurbishing school buildings and
facilities
- Working with community initiatives such as drama and pottery
development
- Helping with the development of a local health clinic and education
centre
- Assistant teaching at local pre-schools and primary schools
- Sports coaching for local school children
Cost for the Uganda volunteer expedition is £1050 for 1-month.
The expedition cost includes all meals, accommodation, transfers,
and funding for the community development programmes.
