in Africa?
I have been asked in the past why it is necessary for volunteers
to have to pay to ‘volunteer’… This is a valid
question! I answer such questions by saying that in a perfect world,
your free labour of love would be wonderful, and we would accept
it with open arms. However, unfortunately, in Africa this is not
always enough. African Impact distributes manpower and funding to
needy projects that would often go unnoticed and unassisted. Self-supported
volunteers working in a local programme also means that volunteers
do not become a burden on local communities and projects.
Some projects are in such dire need of funding that they would
not be able to feed, accommodate and support volunteers and so therefore
would have to opt to miss out on the opportunity of their assistance.
For example, the project fee paid in by two volunteers working with
the Nomadic Communities Trust (NCT) would be enough to purchase,
train and equip one camel for the mobile clinic.
By volunteering with African Impact you are contributing to the
growth and development of our organisation, and toward its extended
potential as a driving force for making a positive impact on the
wildlife and communities of Africa.
