Tanzania - Kilimanjaro, the breathtaking Ngorongoro Ccrater
and the plains of the Serengeti
We visited a local councillor in Northern Tanzania,
near the base of Kilimanjaro, who had contacted us in the hope that
we may be able to develop programmes to work with the local schools
in the Arusha and Moshi areas. Julius is a local councillor who
has a passion for his community and he spent much time introducing
us to heads of local clinics and schools. We were welcomed with
open arms, and are now in the process of deciding on the best way
to go about developing a new community development programme in
this area.
Whilst at Kili’s base town of Moshi, we also met with a
representative of the Kilimanjaro Porters’ Assistance Association
who educate tourists on how their safari companies should be treating
their porters when the climb Africa’s highest mountain, as
well as AIDS and English teaching
to the porters themselves, and providing them with free climbing
gear that they might otherwise never be given.
We hope to offer volunteers the chance to participate in various
projects in this area early next year – so look out for new
developments at our Tanzania volunteer
page in the near future.
So, East Africa is as intriguing as it is invigorating, and awash
with colourful cultures and a gaping window of opportunity for African
Impacters to get stuck in and Explore, Inspire and Impact...
