Victoria Falls Volunteer Project – new baby’s, new volunteers and the new project Lion Encounter
The Victoria Falls Volunteer Programme is growing! At the moment we have 5 volunteers and already have two requests for an extension. As you can see from the picture they are hard at work and loving it... just joking! They get the opportunity to relax from 1pm-3pm and on this day they chose to lie on the deck where we see wild elephant, buffalo, hyena and endless antelope.
We’ve also introduced a new idea called Behavioral Enrichment for the cubs here. We’ve been coming up with some fantastic ideas on how to keep the cubs stimulated when not on walks. Some examples include:
- Paper machete balloon stuffed with stones and straw
- Guinea fowl feathers sewn through reeds
- Fake birds nest
If any of you guys have ideas please email us and we’ll see if we can implement them and will let you know on the progress!
We also have 3 new family members; their names are T-Jay, J-Lee and Becka. They were rescued from a farm in Matetsi about 2 weeks ago at the age of 6 weeks. We were quite worried of their age; we felt that they were too old to bring up. But they have proven to be very good cubs. We have also assigned our Lion Handler Adam to look after them with the help of our volunteer’s of course.
