Lion Cubs news

Lion Cubs – How are they and what are they up to?

Casper & Cleo – Are strong and I mean powerful! You need some serious muscle to sustain Caper greetings and even Cleo’s. Casper is still scared of his own shadow and Cleo still lets him know whose boss. At the moment we had to stop walking them for a couple of days; they met up with the 4M’s on a walk so we felt that they needed to be kept inside in fear of meeting up again. The good part is they all behaved very well, it was like they found their long lost friends!!

The 4M's – Have reached their ‘teenage’ months so are little monsters! Bobbie’s showing them who’s boss and keeping them under raps. Apart from that they are very strong and healthy, and loads of fun walking. They also are showing their winter coats, cute! Mamba decided to go and check what the near by elephants were up to, we all freaked out and Nathan (Lion Handler) was desperate to rescue him but knew that if he went after Mamba both would be in some serious trouble!

Amber, Amy – Are also doing very well. Amber chased a zebra and got a good throttling! She leant a very good lesson that day don’t mess with Zebra!

Arthur, Elsa – Are fit and strong, Unfortunately I don’t have much to say about these two, they don’t get up to much mischief like the others, maybe next month.

Mel & Mufasa, Luke & Leo – Have stopped walking with clients, they were well over 16 months old, yet we all thought they could go for much longer, but it was the anxious clients that determined the inevitable.

Unfortunately since the last newsletter Leo developed the same symptoms as his brother Lucky and never fully recovered. His hips couldn’t carry him any more and we had to use euthanasia. Ed, who brought up these wonderful boys, was there through think and thin. She was determined to see them grow and reach Stage 2 but Mother Nature seemed to take over. Ed’s been very strong through both Lucky and now Leo but is still fighting for Luke. The boys were another case of us accepting rejected cubs from their mother and another reason for us not to accept any more. Luke on the other hand is doing very well, he is the one that seems to have no problems and we are hoping that he will stay that way.

The 5A’s – Are doing very well! Just to let you all know Bobbie has decided to split them up as they were growing very big and fast. They are very healthy and great to walk. Athena and Achilles are the 2A’s and Arial, Ashanti and Apollo are the 3A’s!

Phoenix & Penduka – Are growing strong. Phoenix had ringworm at some stage but we were able to treat it.

3K’s – Have now been put in Lodge Enclosure and are officially walking with clients!

Victoria Falls Trips

Unfortunately no Victoria Falls trips have been able to go out this month because of fuel shortages and believe it or not the guys at AP don’t want to go. They love it so much at AP that visiting the Falls is not on their priority list!

We’ve also had loads of requests for extensions at AP but I’ve had to say no because of numbers, we are PACKED right up until October, can you believe it!
