Vic Falls Lion Project – Casper & Cleo and the 4M’s starting to walk at Lion Encounter
Some of you might or might not know that we have started lion walks in Victoria Falls.
We took over Casper + Cleo, and the 4M's ('my babieees!') It's about 5 minutes away from the town center, at a place called Masuwe Lodge, which is surrounded by state land as far as the eye can see. The big difference is that there are no boundary fences, so no boundary patrol for the volunteers (yea, I hear some of you say!).
We are exposed to all types of dangerous game and had to take precautions to ensure we don't get run over by a buffalo! We have one PH (Professional Hunter) with two scouts who patrol the area.
Just to give you an example of how exciting a walk can be... We did a walk with the 4M's and out of nowhere we see a herd of buffalo. The cubs couldn't care less, they were oblivious to the fact that we were about to get charged and they just kept playing!
Anyway, we were instructed by the PH via radio to keep extremely still until the buffalo passed which luckily they did and we are all here to tell the tale. There are loads more stories like these.
