Latest news from the lion cubs at African Impact
Casper & Cleo are doing amazingly well (Neil you would be proud!!). Neil was the volunteer who took on Casper & Cleo into his own hands from the day he arrived. He saw that they needed some serious love and attention and that is exactly what he gave them until the last day of his departure. Neil, they are fantastic to walk I will even say that they are better than the 4M's, and you know how strongly I feel about them. Your love and attention to these cubs has come out through their nature today. Cleo actually came up and asked for 'cub love', Casper even more so. I don't think there is a day that goes by and they don't enjoy full days walk. Cleo now loves the water, she actually runs for it. I believe she is on the verge of swimming but the riverbeds are too shallow at the moment. Cleo on the other hand just watches, I think he's a bit jealous.
The 4M's are huge!! Andy, Sherry you would literally fall off your chair if you saw them now! Andy and Sherry helped me raise the 4M's, they gave them so much attention and love that it has also comes out in their nature today. Muti is the leader of the pack; she's not shy any more. Mampari, well I think she will always be a Mampara (shona: mischievous). Mambo 'my handsome boy' is so lovable as well as Mamba, the two boys are just adorable and very healthy.
Amber, Amy and Arthur are also doing very well. Rob, you promised you would come back and see them again! We’ve separated the 3A’s, we put Amber with Elsa and Arthur with Amy.
Mel & Mufasa, Luke & Leo are now 14 & 16 months. They’ve been put in Waterfall Encl. And all they want to do is stalk, which is fantastic but not for the poor guests. Oh well. Leo’s been a bit sick he’s had a couple of cists on his elbows, which we’ve been treating.
The 5A’s are very strong and going very well. I’m at Antelope Park at the moment and I’m very happy with how they are doing. David and Anna you guys have done a tremendous job! I can only imagine how it was like to raise 5 cubs.
On a sadder note, we’ve had to put Bill and Ben down?. It’s been a few months ago now but it was very sad to say goodbye. It was very peaceful as it was done intravenously. Elsa was with these guys so this is the reason we put her in with the 3A’s.
On a happier note, we’ve had 2 new additions to Antelope Park. Penga (shona: mad) gave birth to 2 boys Penduka (Indebele: to return) and Phoenix who are adorable. They are just over 2 months now and going strong.
Also we suspect PK and Cheeky are pregnant, we are expecting new cubs beginning of June, hopefully. So keep those fingers crossed!
