Malawi Safety

The best advice is for you to be a well-informed traveller and that you adequately prepare yourself for your travel experience. African Impact offers 24-hour ground support for all our volunteers, and our coordinators will advise you on how best to integrate yourself into your country and your programme.

Please see our safety guidelines for more information or contact us if you have any specific questions about travel safety in Malawi.

Malawi Weather & Climate
  • Summer: Malawi’s Southern lowlands are very hot with high humidity levels. The rest of Malawi, and particularly the areas near Lake Malawi offer great weather, with warm sunshine and cool off-lake breezes.
  • Rainy Season: November - March is the time of year for sporadic afternoon showers.

Malawi Travel Highlights

  • Malawi is famous for the vast fresh waters of Lake Malawi and the mesmerising array of tropical fish that make their home in the depths. Local fishermen in their dugout canoes paddle languidly from island to island. The tranquil waters also offer unmatched snorkelling.
  • To the north of the country tropical highlands and stunning wildlife make way for the borders of Tanzania and the plains of the Serengeti.
  • Chambe in the South is home to Mt Mulanji, which offers stunning views of surrounding tea and coffee plantations.
