Travel Insurance Africa

We frequently asked: Do you need travel insurance for Africa?

YES - you need travel insurance. You will not be accepted into any African Impact programme without proof of comprehensive Africa Travel Insurance. African Impact asks that you organize your own Africa travel insurance and make sure you are fully covered before you travel.

We recommend World Nomads for your Africa travel insurance. Please select your country of residence.

Volunteer Work Travel Insurance

Africa is a travel destination where it is imperative that take out adequate travel insurance. Follow the guidelines below and ensure that you have sufficient Travel Insurance Africa.

  • Medical Expenses:
  • We recommend that you are covered for a minimum of £400,000 and please ensure that you are covered for repatriation (being flown home if there is the need)

  • Cancellation and curtailment:
  • How much you need to be covered for cancellation and curtailment is dependent on the cost of your ticket and any other expenses you may have to pay out to get yourself to the project. £1,000 is recommended. If your ticket and your outlay is more expensive than this, then obviously go up accordingly.

  • Africa Travel Insurance for adventurous activities/extreme sports:
We recommend that you are covered for this if you are planning on doing any ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ activities such as white water rafting, bungee jumping, surfing, river canoeing, etc.

  • Africa Travel Insurance for travel documents:
Cash limit and personal liability are not mandatory for African Impact volunteers but are recommended. It is up to you to decide on your cover for these areas, and to consult your insurance broker.

  • Africa Travel Insurance for baggage and personal belongings: This is up to you– this covers your luggage and its contents. Add up the value of your luggage and belongings and decide how much the contents are worth. Some travellers opt rather to insure individual items that are of the highest value, e.g. digital camera
